HISTORY: Here
PERSONALITY: The Bull has been raised to be put others before himself, to see himself as just part of a larger whole. This is a driving principle behind his actions and in all of his relationships. Despite an upbringing that taught him to put the greater good before individuals, the Iron Bull forms lasting bonds with those that are close to him. This is seen most clearly in his interaction with the Chargers: he has adopted a band of rag-tag warriors and made them his family. He puts himself in danger to keep others safe, and he never asks his men to do anything that he wouldn't. Bull routinely puts the needs of others before his own - this is partly due to his upbringing under the Qun but it is also how he's learned to show people that he cares. Bull's loyalty, once earned, is deep and abiding: he has survived for years in places that have seen others burn out, badly, and continues to function in the world in part due to his dedication to the Qun, and, because of the people he chooses to be close to.First and foremost, the Iron Bull is a servant: to the Inquisition, to the Ben-Hassrath, to the Qun. He willingly submits to re-education rather than risking becoming a danger to his people. Throughout his time in Orlais and Ferelden, he reports to the Ben-Hassrath with perfect devotion: the letters are his lifeline, a point of discipline that keeps him from becoming like the savages he hunted in Seheron. After he breaks from the Qun, Bull remains loyal to the Inquisitor and their mission, even though it sometimes means facing things that shake him to his core.
From a young age, Bull was pegged to be in the military. But his caretakers soon realized that he is perfectly willing to follow the spirit of the rules, but not the letter - they realized that he is too smart for grunt work. They recommended him to the Ben-Hassrath, the spies and secret police of Qunari society. Bull tends to see big-and-small picture issues and he plays the long game: he wants to have all the information at hand to ensure his decisions are sound. As a servant of the Ben-Hassrath, he learns how to manipulate people and situations to get whatever is needed. He is a successful spy in southern Thedas, despite standing out like a sore thumb, for ten years before he ever joins the Inquisition - the only reason the Inquisitor knows about his spywork is that he tells them. The Bull has also been known to play mental games of chess while trekking across Thedas.
Raised under the Qun, Bull remains loyal to as many of its teachings as he can without compromising his priorities. Bull does not seek to convert anyone, but he is unapologetic of the way he follows the Qun, even in the face of very real, very valid criticisms. Bull believes that the Qun gives structure and meaning to his life, keeping him from becoming the mindless, violent savage he so fears. Even after he breaks away from his people, Bull remain dedicated to most of the major tenants of the Qun for the sake of his sanity. Losing control - of himself, of any situation - is one of the Bull's deepest fears. Bull leaves as little to chance as possible through careful planning and information gathering. Even if an action seems reckless, it's likely that he's thought of several alternatives before engaging. The Bull plays the long game, tries to be aware of all the pieces that are moving and in play, and at times this threatens to overwhelm him.
ABILITIES/SKILLS: Bull is a well-trained warrior and spy with all the skills that accompany those jobs. As a 7'6" Qunari, his physical strength is impressive and he often works with large, heavy weapons. Qunari skin is tougher than human skin but can still be cut or pierced with enough force. He spent nearly a decade fighting on the semi-tropical island of Seheron, a highly contested territory that regularly saw guerrilla warfare and open incursions. He has been trained to survive and thrive in multiple environments with limited support and has spent the last 10+ years leading a mercenary group and working for the Inquisition, fighting and treasure-hunting in all manner of places from deserts to jungles to mountain ranges. Bull has become exceedingly good at reading people and situations through his spy work and he has trouble turning this habit off. Bull's specialty class is Reaver: as the battle gets bloodier, he gets more brutal. Hurting him just makes him mad, a mistake most enemies don't live to repeat. Outlined below are his major Reaver abilities with links to his more basic warrior skills.
- Blood Frenzy: They thought he'd get weaker once they wounded him. They were wrong. Bull gains stamina and resolve when injured.
- Terrifying Fury: His critical strikes have a chance to cause a gory messes and send nearby enemies fleeing in a panic. The sheer ferocity and violence of Bull's attacks terrify anyone that see the messy results. He has boasted about cutting an enemy into multiple pieces before they fell, or about fighting with men impaled on his horns.
- Fervor & Scenting Blood: When an enemy combatant is badly injured or dies near him, the thrill of blood and death spurs him to hit that much harder, giving him renewed strength.
- Dragon Rage: Bull launches an attack fueled by his fury, ripping into foes for damage that increases as his own wounds deepen. Something like berserker mode, Bull is not slowed down by his injuries, driven by pure adrenaline.
These abilities come at a cost. When the battle is finally over, Bull is often drained and, due to his tendency to ignore and fight through his injuries, he may sustain deep wounds that need immediate care or time to recover from blood loss.
Two-handed Weapons: Bull has the abilities up to Earthshattering. Experts in this style crush their enemies with massive blows that can break any guard, shatter any armor, and destroy any opponent.
Vanguard: All abilities. These stalwart warriors protect their allies by making themselves the biggest target on the battlefield. When enemies take the bait, Vanguards pick them apart with brutal precision.
Battlemaster: Bull has access to all abilities through Deep Reserves. These cunning warriors control the battlefield and everyone on it. They bolster their allies, hamper their enemies, and take advantage of any sign of weakness.
INVENTORY/COMPANIONS:
- Regular armor kit + side arms
- Bull's Edge great axe
- a stuffed winged nug
- his leg brace
- Dread helmet
FACTION CHOICE: Moon Temple
REASON: Bull is not an idealist. He makes a break from his people because he does not ever consider that the Qun could change, and he can either be part of it or exiled from it - he has no ambition to go back and change the culture he came from. Bull is also an information and fact hound: there have been crippling moments in Bull's life in which not having all the facts could potentially have immediate and long-reaching consequences, so having sight of every piece on the board is important to him and he avoids making decisions on the fly or without all the most up to date information. He has excellent big picture thinking, but he's also on the ground, solving things as he goes along, fixing problems as they arise. The structure of the Moon Temple is familiar to him: led by a high priestess with a highly structured military, it echoes the matriarchal culture that Bull grew up in.
TATTOO: the twin moons of Thedas on his left thigh (if this is not acceptable, a waning crescent moon in the same location)

NOTES, QUESTIONS, COMMENTS: Bull is missing one eye (left) and has, at some point, severely injured his left leg. He generally wears a leg brace and an eye patch. I would prefer that none of these old injuries are healed upon arrival.
